Malaika was founded in 2004 by Margarita Andrande and Goya Gallagher who, after growing up in their native Ecuador relocated to Egypt. With background in design and a keen interest in embroidery, crochet and hand-drawn thread work, they decide to utilise Egyptian cotton and linen to produce high quality bed and table items. They focus on teaching embroidery to local women, giving them a chance to learn a valuable skill and improve their economic standing. Designs are inspired by their love of Egypt and its rich history and culture, with beautiful palm trees, scarab beetles, the River Nile and pharaonic motifs. Their pottery collection is entirely handcrafted using an art form that dates back to the Ancient Egyptians decorated with bold and original designs. Every Malaika item is a labour of love and a true celebration of craftsmanship, a real luxury in today's technology-driven world.
